Centre d'Hardelot is owned by Kent County Council and set in eight acres of woodland on the outskirts of the French seaside town of Hardelot.
The Centre provides a base for exploring the Côte d'Opale region, a wide range of stimulating activities both on and off site and allows group leaders and young people a safe environment for a first experience away from home in a foreign country. It is a unique venue for recreational, social, cultural, language and environmental learning programmes.
Principally the Centre is used by Kent Schools and youth organisations but has visitors from all over the world as it is becoming a popular venue for international youth camps. It gives young people a real insight into French living and at the same time improves their communication skills, whether it be through French language or hand signals.
The main area for socialising and eating is the Old Hunting Lodge which also provides accommodation for up to 4 people. In addition the Centre has 20 bedrooms accommodating up to 40 people in bunk beds, or single beds for group leaders. Meals are prepared on site by our own friendly French staff and is mainly traditional French cuisine.
Facilities include a separate games room, three large classrooms (one of which has environmental studies resources), an outdoor theatre, a challenge and problem solving course, a volleyball court, giant chess, orienteering, a barbecue and a large pond.
Open all the year round - different times of the year see different usage. Spring and summer are ideal for outdoor activity programmes, whilst autumn and winter lend themselves to study and training programmes. An open fire in the social area provides a warm welcome for the winter months and a balcony a sunny spot to relax in the summer.
The Centre offers good value for money and prices are based on group rates for bed and breakfast plus evening meal. Packed lunches or buffet meals, discounted travel and a Centre minibus driver can also be provided.
